FAQ

What is the simplest way to obtain PR status in Singapore?

While there is no simple way or shortcut to obtaining permanent residency in Singapore, the most common path is through the Professional, Technical Personnel and Skilled Workers scheme (PTS) for foreign nationals working or contributing in Singapore.

Another route is the Global Investor Programme (GIP), which serves investors and has stringent eligibility criteria.

What are the fees for applying for Singapore Permanent Residency?

A non-refundable processing fee of SGD 100 is required with each application submission.

How long does it take to process a Singapore PR application?

There is no fixed processing time for PR applications. Typically, the processing can take about four to six months, depending on the complexity of your individual case. For some, it can be a lengthy and repetitive process.

What if my permanent residency application is denied?

You can reapply or make an appeal. There is no limit on the number of times you can apply for PR, but you only get one chance to appeal. Many law-abiding and fully qualified candidates get rejected every year, so do not be discouraged by failure or give up. Wait six months, improve your PR profile or personal circumstances, such as earning a higher salary, purchasing property, engaging in community work, or enhancing your educational qualifications, and then reapply.

How do I renew my permanent residency status?

Permanent residency is lifelong; however, the Re-Entry Permit (REP) typically has a validity of 5 years. You must renew it regularly, which can be conveniently done online via ICA’s e-services.

Note that if you spend most of your time outside Singapore, you might only receive a one-year validity for your Re-Entry Permit.
