FAQ

Are New MM2H Applications Currently Being Accepted?
At the moment, new applications for the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) program are on hold until further notice. While agents are still preparing necessary documentation and information, they are unable to submit applications until official approval is granted by the government. Many agents are currently focused on renewing their own licenses as they await updates.
Do Existing MM2H Participants Have to Reapply?
For those already holding MM2H visas, there’s no need to reapply or comply with the updated regulations. Current participants must adhere to the original terms and conditions that were in place when their visa was first approved, ensuring continuity and stability for those already part of the program.
Why Are MM2H Agent Fees So High?
One common question is why the fees for MM2H agents seem high. It’s important to understand that these fees cover more than just agent services. They also include various other costs such as immigration processing fees, medical examinations, insurance, administrative charges, and application costs. Since these are government-regulated, the total can appear substantial.
When Can I Use My Fixed Deposit to Purchase a Property?
A key benefit of the MM2H program is the ability to access your fixed deposit for property purchases after holding your visa for one year. This provides financial flexibility, allowing you to purchase property without tying up additional funds.
Are MM2H Visa Holders Limited to Purchasing New Properties?
The restriction on purchasing new properties only applies to the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) category. If you hold a Silver, Gold, or Platinum MM2H visa, you are free to choose between both new and resale properties. This gives you more flexibility when selecting a property that fits your needs and budget.
Do I Need to Buy a New Property if My Current Property Meets the MM2H Price Requirement?
If you already own a property that meets the MM2H minimum price requirement, there’s no need to purchase a new one. For example, if you own a property in Kuala Lumpur worth RM1 million, you can pledge it under your MM2H visa, provided you hold it for at least ten years from the date your visa was approved.
Can I Combine the Value of Multiple Properties to Meet the MM2H Requirement?
A common inquiry is whether multiple properties can be combined to meet the MM2H property price requirement. Unfortunately, the rule requires that the value be met by a single property. For instance, those applying for the Platinum visa need to own a single property valued at a minimum of RM2 million.
Can Foreigners Purchase Property in Malaysia Without an MM2H Visa?
Yes, foreigners are permitted to buy property in Malaysia even without an MM2H visa. There are no restrictions on the number of properties you can own, as long as you comply with the state-specific requirements regarding property type and price. This makes Malaysia an appealing destination for foreign property investment.
What Is the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Category in the MM2H Program?
The Special Economic Zone (SEZ) category is a relatively new addition to the MM2H program and offers more lenient conditions. This category is specific to regions such as Johor’s Iskandar and Forest City and involves purchasing property directly from developers with a minimum value of RM500,000. Additionally, the SEZ allows applicants as young as 21, with lower fixed deposit requirements: USD65,000 for applicants aged 21–49 and USD32,000 for those over 50. The application fee for the SEZ category is RM40,000, plus a government processing fee of RM1,000. Given its proximity to Singapore, this option is particularly attractive to professionals working in the area.
I am 50 years old and currently unemployed. Can I still apply for MM2H?
Yes, you can. As long as you can provide proof of retirement income that meets the application requirements or fulfill the financial criteria, Malaysia still welcomes you to apply for the MM2H program.
Do I need a visa to visit Malaysia before my MM2H application is approved?
Yes. Before your MM2H application is approved, we can assist you in applying for a visitor visa to Malaysia.
Does the MM2H program grant me a work permit?
No. The MM2H program does not permit holders to work in Malaysia. However, if you wish to work, you may apply for a work visa. Another option is to invest in and establish a business in Malaysia.
How long must I stay in Malaysia after my MM2H application is approved?
During the five-year validity period of the MM2H visa, you are required to stay in Malaysia for at least 90 days each year to meet the visa conditions.
Do I need to pay taxes in Malaysia?
If an MM2H holder’s company in Malaysia generates income, they must pay corporate taxes to the Malaysian Tax Authority. Otherwise, any legal funds transferred to Malaysia from abroad are exempt from taxes.
Can my friend or colleague (a third party) submit my application on my behalf?
Third-party submissions are not accepted. Applicants must submit their applications through courier or at the MM2H counter.

Applicants are required to submit a passport-size photo with a blue background.

Can I withdraw my fixed deposit at any time during my stay in Malaysia?

Can I withdraw a portion of my fixed deposit and replace it later?

Can I undergo the medical examination before my application is approved? How do I choose my medical check-up package (e.g., general screening, employment medical check-up, or other packages)?

ii. Copy of the passport (personal details page and the last exit stamp page); and

Do MM2H family members need to pay a security bond?
Only the main applicant is required to pay the security bond.
For the renewal after five (5) years, can I courier the necessary document copies to your office first and then bring the original documents before the 14-day processing period ends?
MM2H holders are not allowed to mail any documents for renewal processing. Instead, holders must personally bring the required documents to the MM2H Immigration Department.
How much of my fixed deposit should I retain to meet the MM2H renewal conditions for another five (5) years?
If an MM2H holder has already set up a fixed deposit account under the program, they must provide the original fixed deposit certificate when renewing the visa. If the holder has withdrawn a portion of the fixed deposit, they must provide an updated fixed deposit certificate (original and copies) to ensure the minimum balance requirement is still met.
If my MM2H visa expired a few years ago, do I still need to formally terminate the visa?
Yes, the holder must officially terminate their MM2H visa with the MM2H Immigration Unit to reclaim all fixed deposits held in Malaysia.
Do we need to notify the MM2H unit if the MM2H holder passes away?
Yes, if the MM2H holder or an attached dependent (family member) passes away, immediate family members must notify the MM2H unit. This replacement application must be submitted within three months of the principal holder’s passing; otherwise, it will not be accepted.

The MM2H holder must bring the following documents to the MM2H Immigration Unit:

Children under 21 years old can enter Malaysia as dependents. However, if they are over 21, they must renew their residence permit annually to remain legally in Malaysia (this is valid up to the age limit of 35 years). After the age of 35, they must apply for the MM2H program independently. (**MM2H dependents cannot work or marry in Malaysia.)

MM2H holders can also invest in any existing company, but their ownership stake must be below 50% (this implies the MM2H holder is not the company’s majority shareholder, as majority shareholders are considered active participants in the business). However, since January 1, 2017, new regulations state that MM2H holders can only sell or transfer cars that have been registered for over five years, and this sale must be approved by the Royal Malaysian Customs Department. After the sale, the applicable taxes must be paid based on the department’s assessed market value before the transfer of car ownership can proceed.
